Young IA
Committee
 |
Chairman : Sue Blackwell
Hi, I'm Sue. I'm a Civil Servant (for my sins!)
and I've been colonically challenged since 2005, when I gave up the unequal battle
with my colon. I had medically refractory UC, and tried just about everything, including
the spawn of satan - ciclosporin. Before my op I was taking 40 pills a day - I must
have rattled when I walked!
Having surgery was the best thing that could have happened
to me. I've had some problems since I had my "barbie butt" done in 2006 - things
have a tendency not to go well for me. But they didn't stop me spending three
weeks on holiday in India and Dubai in 2007 - including 22 hours on a train from
Delhi to Hyderabad.
I joined the committee of South East London & West Kent
IA in the Spring of 2007, and took over as Secretary at the AGM
in March 2008. I'm really pleased to have been able to join the YIA Sub-Committee
and look forward to helping to raise the profile of Young IA.

Hi, I’m
Heather Riseborough (nee Buck, I got married last year (2009).
I was diagnosed with what the doctors thought was Crohn’s Disease in 1997. However
biopsies taken from my bowel also showed signs of Ulcerative Colitis (UC), therefore,
I fall into the category Colitis/Crohn’s.
After trying various medications (that did not work) I decided to have a temporary
ileostomy in 1999. In 2001 my surgeon was confident that I actually had UC rather
than Crohn’s disease so I decided to pursue the option of having the internal pouch.
However after they had operated to form the pouch I became very ill with dehydration
so my doctor decided that he would delay fully reversing the ileostomy. So since
then I have had both an internal pouch and an ileostomy; it makes filling out medical
forms so much fun!
I joined the committee of Norfolk & Suffolk IA in Spring 2004,
and took over as their Secretary in November 2008. I have also been a member of
the Young IA sub-committee since 2006 and I have thoroughly enjoyed
raising the profile of Young IA both locally and nationally.
